SIGMA MRS. BUNNY ESSENTIAL KIT VEGAN BRUSHES - PRODUCT REVIEW

They say that beauty is only skin deep...except with Sigma brushes.  I have seen these brushes pop up all over the beauty community sites, blogs, feeds, etc. and even spent an hour in line at IMATs LA 2013 to pick these bad boys up.  So the question remains...do you fork up the dough or stash the cash?

Now that I have had a whole year to really get to know my Sigma Mrs. Bunny brush set I feel it is time to share my findings.  After all, do you really know a brush after your first makeup date?  I like to wine and dine my brushes, get to know them, flaws and all.

The Mrs. Bunny Kit includes:

• E05 - Eye Liner

• E30 - Pencil

• E40 - Tapered Blending

• E55 - Eye Shading

• E60 - Large Shader

• E65 - Small Angle

• E70 - Medium Angled Shading

• F30 - Large Powder

• F40 - Large Angled Contour

• F50 - Duo Fibre

• F60 - Foundation

• F70 – Concealer

PRO: The travel kit that this set comes with is pretty neat-o.  I have not had any issues with the snaps coming loose during travel which means I can rest easy when I throw this thing into my gym bag, travel luggage, or wherever it may go.  I actually keep my brushes in this case permanently and use each side of the case as brush holders during application.

CON: To me the biggest "con" is the price of this set, just as a budget conscious person.  Forking up $155 for anything is hard for me but when I did the math it comes out to around $13.00 per brush when all is said and done and you get a case, too.

PRO: The construction of these brushes are fantastic.  The weight is perfect to me; not too light, not too heavy, just right.  Even after a year of everyday use I have yet to lose a hair from any of my brushes which is HUGE in terms of the quality of the ferrule build (the pink part in the pictures).  I have had other brushes for less time than these that I paid more for and have started to lose their bristles already.  So go Sigma construction!

CON: I wish there were more blending brushes for the eyes in this kit.  It has the E40 Tapered Blending brush and that is pretty much it for the looser ferruled eye brushes.  I would love to see one that had a smaller tip that still was purposed for blending.  You certainly can use the E70 Medium Angled Shading with a light hand but still the brush tip is larger than I would like.

PRO: Vegan!!  I love that there is a vegan brush set available, it just makes my soul happy.

Now let us get into the brush specifics and experiences!

Sigma Says: E05 - Eye Liner Create smooth and even lines. Use with gel or liquid liners.

BGD Makeup Says: Not my favorite style of brush for doing eye liner.  I have more success with an angled brush but that's just my tool preference.  I have used this if I need really precision application for my lips and it works great for that for me.

Sigma Says: E30 - Pencil Soften and smoke out lines. Soften pencil liners along the top and bottom lash lines, add shadow to line the eyes, or use to highlight inner corner of eyes.

BGD Makeup Says: This is an excellent pencil brush.  It picks up a great amount of product whether it is cream based, pressed powder, or loose pigment.

Sigma Says: E40 - Tapered Blending Soft blended crease. Using just the tips to apply color, sweep back and forth through the crease for a diffused and blended finish.

BGD Makeup Says: This is one of my favorite brushes in the bunch, but, alas, the only true blending brush in the bunch.  You can lightly apply a color with this brush giving your look the perfect color transition without much extra work.

Sigma Says: E55 - Eye Shading Even application of color. Place color across the whole lid for an even and strong application of product.

BGD Makeup Says: I often use this brush to apply dense color under my brow for a highlight or along my lower lash line; it picks up a ton of product.  Due to the small bristles I have a hard time using this on my upper lid without my lashes getting in the way.

Sigma Says: E60 - Large Shader Uniformly cover the whole lid with product. Apply cream shadow base or cream shadow for quick and even coverage.

BGD Makeup Says: This brush is fantastic with cream or liquid products.  Under eye concealers, concealers around the nose, or spot treatments on the cheeks that are a little larger, I love this brush for those application types.  Only in a pinch will I use this for my lid because the brush head is so large.

Sigma Says: E65 - Small Angle Create precise lining. Moves fluidly and easily across the upper and lower lash lines. Use with gel, cream or powder liners.

BGD Makeup Says: Mmmm this brush is yummy.  I use it for many different applications.  Under the eye if I need to get color closer to the lash line, liner along the upper lash line for liquids or gels, and also if I am sprucing up my brows I will use this brush to apply gel or pomades.  This is one of those must have brushes.

Sigma Says: E70 - Medium Angled Shading Soft application of color. Use for brow highlighting or to blend the crease.

BGD Makeup Says: To put it simply, this brush is lovely.  The angled bristles is fun to play with if you want to have more product in one place versus another, such as a crease.  If used lightly you can use this brush to blend as well but it does hold on to product so just be mindful of how you use it.

Sigma Says: F30 - Large Powder Even powder application. Uniform blending of powder products onto the face and body.

BGD Makeup Says:  I love this brush.  It is one of those brushes that you know will feel good on your face but still be a workhorse.  I used it for powdering, sometimes for bronzing, and sometimes even cheeks.  It is a great brush that blends beautifully.

Sigma Says: F40 - Large Angled Contour Subtle cheek application. Use the angle to softly contour the cheekbone. Can also be used to apply blush.

BGD Makeup Says: I want to adore this brush so much and I keep going back to it..."I wish I knew how to quit you" F40!  Shape wise it should be the perfect brush for contour but I think, for me, I prefer that the bristles be a bit looser.  It just doesn't give in to the face like I want it to; just a bit too stiff for the delicate art that is contouring.

Sigma Says: F50 - Duo Fibre Creates an airbrush effect onto the skin. Can be used with powder, liquid or cream products.

BGD Makeup Says: This is a fun brush for fun times.  You can smoothly apply foundations, even do a light powdering, or my personal favorite, cream blushes with this puppy.  The duo fibre bristles are the soul mate for cream and liquid products.

Sigma Says: F60 - Foundation Smooth foundation application. Apply liquid or cream products such as foundation and primer.

BGD Makeup Says: Sigma's F60 is exactly what it needs to be, the cargo train of foundation brushes; it loads up on product and then delivers product.  I rarely use brushes when I apply my foundation, but when I do, I use the Sigma F60.  It just sounds cool, too.

Sigma Says: F70 – Concealer Conceal small areas. Conceal the hardest to reach areas such as around the nose and eyes.

BGD Makeup Says: This is, my far, my favorite brush of the whole kit.  I actually use this most for packing on lid color.  I love the smaller brush head which allows me to easily get into the inner corner and if you’re doing a color transition on the lid you can put different colors on each side and work from side to side to blend as needed.  This brush, if I’m going on a trip and I want to lighten my brush load, ALWAYS is in my travel kit…ALWAYS.

THE VERDICT: While the price is high all together, I think that these brushes, overall, are totally worth it.  They are standard brushes, perfect for travel with the case it comes with, that are great quality and will last you a long time.  Like all great things in life, there are a few duds, but the majority of these brushes I find myself reaching to daily.  I do not regret the 1 hour of waiting at IMATs and I do not regret the purchase.
